Smart home appliances will be forced to support offline-first local control by law
Following widespread consumer backlash over bricked devices and forced cloud subscriptions, consumer protection agencies in the US and EU will mandate that all major home appliances function fully via local network control without requiring an active internet connection or mandatory cloud account.
